"In your own words, please describe the function of the division you have applied to". How would you respond to this? Own words?
How do you describe "in your own words" the function of a division? Like, M&A advisory has established functions and objectives, like Asset Management and any other division. It's like a book definition, there is no way around it. Or do they want you to give an "artistic" description of the role or something? Because I am not going to come here to create a new definition of investment banking. (In this case, is Private Capital Advisory) [is a question for the summer internship application at Rothschild].
I would just look at it as a pulse check for the interviews. Do you know what you are actually applying for? I would not try and get to fancy with an answer but definitely show them what you know.
Yup. I remember being an undergrad and applying and even interviewing for shit that I had no understanding of
That point of view is very valid. Thanks.
They probably get a lot of people who apply to PCA who have no idea what PCA is, so this at least forces people to google it before the interview
Hopefully goes without saying, but don't just copy and past the definition from the company website
Thats a clear point. I just have to figure out a difference between describing the position 'in my own words' and 'what is capital advisory' on google.
Test out your explanation with a friend who doesn't work in finance. If your explanation is concise and they understand it, you're good to go. If not, try again
