Include reference for current employer?
I am in the late stages of the interview process with an investment bank and they have recently asked me to send them a few references. My most recent (and current employer) is a different investment bank but they do not know that I am interviewing with other firms.
How should I deal with this situation? Should I tell my potential employer that I can't provide a reference for my current job because I don't want to jeopardize my current position?
Yes, that is what you tell them.
Send them references from prior jobs.
Most places don't need a reference from a current employer so you should be fine with just telling them what you wrote.

I have come across some interesting opportunities for fresh graduates that I want to give a shot at applying - especially because i have formal contacts at either of these firms. However, I have only been at my current job about 6 months into the analyst role. Should I worry about prospective employers contacting my current firm for references, etc? This thought just occurred to me, and now I am worried if I should even apply to any places altogether. I most certainly don't want to screw anything up at my current position.
Any experienced folks know how this process works?

Don't worry unless you are applying to a firm with the dumbest fucks in the history of the universe. Everybody knows that you don't want to get fired.
Also, if you don't ant to apply for another job because you don't want your current employer to find out.....does that mean that you plan on staying there for the rest of your life?
LOL. Okay, thanks. I think I just needed some form of reassurance. I feel guilty for beginning the job search so early and scared to mess anything up, but you're right...time to take the plunge!
