Incoming Analyst Interested in Group Change (I’m an overthinker, please help)
Incoming analyst at a BB. Interested in tech/media/consumer investing and entrepreneurship long-term.
Joining a group that is strong at our bank and has broad coverage (think HC, RE, or IND). I’m not particularly interested in my coverage, but I really liked the people I worked with.
How should I approach this? I think summer analyst / summer associate / lateral group placement is probably kicking off soon for my bank.
Given the group is a solid (deal flow + seniors) and I like the people, am I stupid for considering moving? Just not sure if it makes sense to stay if I am aiming for a career in tech/media/software.
How significant is it for buyside recruiting or pivoting to another role (think growth at a consumer software company)? I can’t imagine I’d be as competitive for those roles if I’m not living and breathing that coverage each day.
