Incoming FIG SA at BB, why is FIG so hated on? Is it really as bad as its reputation?

Heading into a FIG summer analyst role at a BB, with no experience in the industry, I am curious as to why FIG is universally known as boring, complicated, a pigeon hole, etc? Obviously I have no experience and am going into the internship with an open mind, but I feel that FIG has a very pessimistic view surrounding the industry by the IB community. I'm hoping I'll love FIG, but should I be positioning myself to potentially lateral to another industry group after the SA stint, or is FIG not really as bad as its reputation?
