Hello, I am new to the forums and look forward to being part of the WSO community. Per way of introduction, I am a senior at an undergraduate northeast university and I am looking to break into investment banking. Hurdles in my career search have been a lack of relevant internships and attending a non-target school.

Please find below an email template I plan to send out to a targeted list of technology focused boutique and middle market investment banks.

Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Name a senior finance major at [university name] and founder of [university name]’s Finance Society. My role in this organization is to mentor students on ways to best position themselves as valuable candidates to future employers within the finance. I have learned from our research that the most successful candidates seeking opportunities in private equity and hedge funds generally come from investment banking backgrounds. As a result, many of our members have concurrently developed an interest in investment banking and I have encouraged them pursue such opportunities. I received your contact information from research I conducted on investment banks and I am impressed by your experience in the industry. I was wondering if you had some time to speak on the phone within the next few weeks to discuss your experience and any suggestions you may have for students seeking future opportunities in investment banking. As a means of context, I have attached my resume and look forward to speaking with you soon. I appreciate your time and consideration.
