whatstheplan and I are not trolls, we’re just making the one joke that can be made about E.F. Hutton. Back in the 1980s, E.F. Hutton was famous nationwide for supposedly giving good stock tips. They ran these funny TV commercials where a businessman would be in a loud room and start talking about something he heard from E.F. Hutton, and the whole room would fall silent because “when E.F. Hutton talks, people listen.” It was their gimmick, and why they were a household name. Later on, a series of confusing mergers made them Shearson, then American Express, then Shearson Lehman, then Lehman Brothers, but the brokerage piece went mostly to Citigroup. E.F. Hutton as it was no longer exists really, it’s mostly just a famous name that most boomers and finance hardos (I’m the latter) know because a funny TV commercial.
