Internal transfer from Hong Kong to NY in BB IBD

I am in a US top target school now. I have received a mid-tier BB SA offer in HK (say BAML/Citi/UBS/DB). I know the first thing is to secure a return offer after summer internship. However, due to personal reasons, I hope to move to NY office after 1 or 2 years. Is it possible to achieve an internal move within BB? Can anyone share any successful story? Appreciate for all advice. Thx!

I'm joining a european BB at HK as a first year -- so I can only speak for my bank.

Although it's very bank and group specific, internal transfers are commonly done in my bank. analysts and associates in HK move to NY, SF, and London very easily and even more so if you have worked a lot with the group at the desired city. for example, TMT analysts in HK worked a lot with NY and SF mostly for chinese tech companies' ipo in the states and have moved very easily when they wanted.

Echoing what justone_na said. It largely depends on your bank's mobility policy. GS/MS have third year program where you can go to another office/group. Networking helps since you need yes from you current group and office/group you are interested in. You can come back or stay after the year stint. Again its all about whether they like you or not.

Just to add on my previous comment, most bank look to hire internally first if there's an opening, and there will be openings since analysts/associates quit all the time. i think what you have to worry more is the possibility of meeting a shitty MD who doesn't like letting his monkeys go
