Internships

I want to go into IB, what type of internship should I be looking for for my sophomore summer? Junior summer? Does BB vs MM or smaller matter, or is the experience the important part of the internship? If I could get a difference finance internship at a BB or an IBD internship at a boutique, which should I take?

Thank you!

For sophomore summer you have flexibility and generally any sort of brand name on your resume will give you a good opportunity if you to a semi/target school where the banks recruit on campus. If they don't and you go to a non-target, you are still fine but you will have to take the extra step of networking starting around midway through your internship (let's say around July-August is when you begin networking which runs to say November. This gives a good 3-4 months to make contacts at the given firms and establish relationships with some folks who can help you later on in the process.)

Preferably, and if $$ isn't a huge priority, the best opportunity sophomore year is a summer analyst position at a boutique/mid size firm. There was a post on WSO a while back that showed a sizeable list of boutiques, but doing a simple google search should help you on that front. Barring this, any sort of f500 finance or other type of internship will help you craft your story ("you got interested in finance, took x and participated in y at your university, interned at abc corp, and decided that you wanted to focus more on doing transactions but particularly within this space because you came away enjoying the industry)

I hope this was of some help :)

There's a closer meaning to my user name. Try reading it quickly. Perhaps you will then understand ;P
