Interview Thank You notes
Hi, had some phone interviews over the past few days and was wondering if post-interview thank you notes were a thing in investment banking (Europe/UK). Interviews were first round phone calls for the most part, some more informal side I feel. Also curious if things change when the interview was done through a recruiting firm.
Perhaps a weird question, I'm not sure.
Thanks to anyone who might know
They are not a thing in London
In the US it’s mostly dependent from person to person. It never hurts to send a follow; I always did just in case… Keep it short and sweet. 2-3 sentences max
I think these have become much less common in recent years. I have no expectation that I should receive one when interviewing people and it doesn’t win any extra points with me if I do. Minds are going to be made up after the interview itself and a note like this is not going to tip the scales back if you’ve been dinged.
Thanks for the input, yes I didn't imagine them to be a factor, this was more simply being unsure about customs in this area
It never hurts. Keep it lean and professional
Maybe unpopular opinion but I don't believe in sending thank you notes after interviews because it negatively affects your image as a candidate. It makes you look desperate for the job and sets the tone that the company did you a favor by interviewing you, rendering you as lower status.
I've never gotten a job where I've sent thank you notes after the interview. Oddly enough, it was when I didn't bother reaching out afterwards where I got my last two offers.
