Interview with MD–what should I expect?

Hey everyone,

I'm a rising sophomore and was cold-emailing boutique IB firms to get some experience either during the school year or my sophomore summer. I have a chat with an MD on Thursday and don't really know what to expect. Does anybody have any advice on how to prepare? Should I expect technicals?

I know everyone's experience will be different, and I'll never be 100% certain on what to expect but was just wondering if anyone who went through something similar had some insight.

Thanks.

MDs will rarely go hard on technicals - of course you should know them just in case, but that wouldn't be my focus in fine-tuning. I'd expect questions about your background, why IB, why this firm. Basic stuff, but have good stories about your motivations and why this firm is the right next move for you.

Make sure you have a good list of questions too, at least 5-7. Sometimes they expect you to take the lead on these intro chats
