Interviewer asked me about my age
Yesterday I had a first round interview with one of the banks, and the conversation went like this:
Interviewer: You're 21 right?
Me: I'm 20.
Interviewer: Oh you're young.
It didn't dawn on me until after the interview that the question he asked me was technically illegal. I know that there's nothing that I can do now, but do you guys think that it will affect my chances? And has this ever happened to any of y'all?
Read it this way: I: "You're 21, right?" You: "I'm 20." I: "Fuck, I'm old"
Unless there was some missing context or reaction he gave you, there's nothing to be worried about. Especially if he was an older banker as they often will remark every year how the incoming bankers get younger and younger. They don't mean anything by it, rather just to emphasize how old they themselves feel/are.
So no, it will probably not effect your chances.
Feeling a lot better now. Thanks guys!
sorry, its an auto-ding
Sue the fucking bank. If this is in the US, an interviewer cannot ask a candidate about his age.
Did you he also ask you what you're interests were? Did he say you had a pretty mouth?
