Interviewing in One Group to land an Interview in another Group?
Could interviewing at a group you aren't as interested in be a good strategy to break into a bank and land interviews in other groups you are more interested in (assuming you are trying your best not a prick about it)? For example suppose you are offered an interview in ECM and upon showing up you try to get on people's good side so you can land an interview in M&A.
Has anyone heard this being done and if so how do you go about doing it? "Hi My name is X! I'm just here because I really want to get into M&A/Lev Fin/whatever..." does not sound too polite.
I can't imagine you could actually do this. You could land the job and just transfer after 1-2 years though.
lateral move after you've worked there for awhile, maybe. but straight up interview request for another group? that's shady as fuck
