I am not international, but our firm hires (very few) internationals in the US.

  1. The better the college brand, the higher the odds of getting hired (at least for our firm)
  2. Your internships matter, having none or the wrong kind will hurt during recruitment. We don't hire people who didn't work in finance before.
  3. The odds are lower than before, but not zero. The current climate will not encourage people to hire you, there are fewer jobs to go around.
  4. Network! Attend events. DM people on LinkedIn. Connect with alumni. Reach out to anyone you know or don't know.

If things don't work out, have a plan B. Canada, UK, Australia. Or something else.
Follow the news and frequent changes, there is a chance that OPT might get altered or canceled. Plan for this event.
