Investment banking Advices for beginners
Hello there, this is my first post on WSO. I am an undergraduate student in a target business school and my goal is to get into IB. What are the top advices you could give me in order to join this world? What are the chances to join IB if I am not selected for internships n my undergarudate course? And for people who have been working there for a long time: do you think it is worth it?
Answering your question on how to get in:
- Study at a good school (you already have this)
- Maintain a high GPA (anything above +3.7 but you can bs your way if +3.5 too)
- Join your school's business clubs, frats, or any organization that are well-known on your campus for having kids with good offers
- Talk to the seniors and juniors at your school to learn more about recruiting
- Recruit for remote internships during your freshman and sophomore years and also for your freshman summer (the closer to IB the better but anything finance is good)
- Participate in your school's stock pitch/ investment competitions (optional and hard but useful)
- Start networking with bankers your sophomore fall (around November/December ish)
- Learn the technicals in the guides like BIWS or WSP
- Learn to master the behaviorals: your story, why bank/group, a few stories to fit into questions
- Ace the interviews and use early offers to accelerate better offers
Congrats; you just made it!
PS: or you can just do the diversity programs lol. jk jk.
