Investment Banking Salaries and Advice

Hi, I am an Australian HS student and am interested in pursuing a career in investment banking and then hopefully move into something like private equity or venture capital. I have heard that the working conditions for IB are much more relaxed in Aus when compared to the US, how does this affect the salaries paid to investment bankers in Aus? I was also wondering if anyone or someone they know have moved from IB in Aus to US and specifically NY. Any advice and feedback is helpful.
