Investment Banking to Product Marketing Pipeline
Has anyone had experience transitioning from investment banking to tech product marketing? I have been in IB for the last 2 years and looking to make a transition to marketing as I feel like it would be more fulfilling/interesting/creative. How did you go about making this transition? Don't really have much marketing experience and also hoping to land at a big tech company so that the pay cut wouldn't be as drastic. Feel like the IB to marketing pipeline isn't as common so would love to hear any thoughts/experience taking this route.
Thanks in advance!
Have you considered product management? These are sometimes called "product strategy" jobs. For a tech firm, the product manager is responsible for the product vision, gathering market / customer feedback, making sure the product meets the customer needs and monitoring the success of the product once launched. There is usually some marketing involved because you have to understand the problems that the product is solving for and how to sell it to the end users and bill payers.
Given your experience, you would probably find that a tech company that sells products to people in IB would appreciate your expertise (particularly one whose software you used to use). You may already even have contacts at some of these firms.
