At a networking event for my school, get some business cards talk to some guys for a little bit, etc etc
Now I'm only a freshman so they weren't very interested in me considering they didn't have any SA offers for freshman, but obviously I want to keep in contact with the MD's I met with, albeit for a very brief amount of time.
So would it be considered a cold email if I email them based off their card? I would say in the interview I met them at the event, but they don't remember my name or anything like that, so for them it would effectively be a cold email.
Also, they gave us a list of emails for various divisions, I'm wondering if I hit up those emails if it would be a cold email? Considering I didn't even speak to them but I got their email through the event.
Effectively, my question is how I should treat the emails with these guys that I "kinda sorta" met at the event but they forgot my name twenty seconds after I walked away.
Get their cards, keep in contact with them. Add them to your linked in account. Email them a "nice to meet you". You can keep in touch with them etc and when you're a sophomore you may have preferential treatment when it comes to SA gigs.
For the guys to don't know? Eh do what you want, but the guys you get cards from are more important.
I don't really like the adding them to linkedin move before you actually have a substantial conversation with them. I think if you have their cards, don't email them and ask them for possible interview opportunities or attach a resume. At these events they've met a lot of people and as you said probably don't remember you.
I would come up with some questions for them that make it seem like you want to learn more about the industry (especially cause you're a freshman) and hopefully they'll be willing to help you out. Ask for advice and they're personal experience as to what it takes to succeed and what type of person fits into the industry.
