Is it common in London to move from M&A to Sales & Trading?
I’m curious about how common it is for people in London to transition from an M&A role into Sales & Trading.
If it does happen, what’s the best way to approach such a move? What skills or experiences would help someone stand out against candidates who’ve been in S&T from the start?
I've seen people move from coverage to financing/structuring up to and including the VP level, haven't seen anybody move to trading or sales.
Yeah, I’ve seen this as well, but was wondering about S&T in particular.
I guess real quantitative skills might be required on S&T desk, hence people are not doing such moves
It's not a natural move. No matter where you are in the world.
Ofc it happens, but probably where IBD and S&T overlap a little more. You're probably not gonna see an M&A banker become a eq derivs trader.
Of course, it’s not natural – that’s exactly why I asked.
I’m just trying to better understand on what kind of “desks” this could even be possible.
