Is it okay to email an employee?
Met an employee at a BB a few times. I was wondering if it would be okay to email him stating my interest in his field and ask him if he knows of any available opportunities and could hopefully pass my resume along. The problem with this is I think he would assume I could simply find this information by going on the website.
Mention how you met him in the email dude...this is basic stuff
yea I know.
Email him and THEN set up a phone call. Be a networking ninja!
Your goal should be to grow you network which will lead to opportunities. Otherwise, people will direct you to their company websites.
Make it clear you'd appreciate it if he could point you in the direction of someone who can give good career advice or know of opportunities. Offer to take them out for coffee/drinks. You don't want to come off as a transactional relationship sort of guy.
But yeah, contact this employee and generally be aggressive in networking. People like it when they're in a position to help someone and the worst he can do is ignore you and you're no worse off.
Don't just e-mail him to pass your resume along right off the bat. E-mail him and say you have a few questions about the industry/want to learn about his career and try to set up a time to talk on the phone. Then send a thank you e-mail and say you are really interested and ask about opportunities.
