Is Loan Sale / Equity Placement IB experience?

A member here was gracious enough to provide me with a lead for an internship and was accepted into the program.

Although this isn't M&A , how does real estate loan sales / equity placements look to recruiters of IBD fulltime positions? This is a boutique bank. I would like to know how relevant this experience may be for future recruiting as it does not seem like they hire out of analysts.

Thanks

A lot of Bear Stearns guys work/worked there because they did a lot of deals with them in 05-07. From what I understand, loan sales is good for getting comfortable valuing distressed debt and should transfer well to special situations groups or real estate PE firms (which are the groups you'll probably deal with the most outside of the firm, since PE firms are buying up a lot of NPLs to get to the underlying collateral).

Equity placement is somewhat different and involves structuring large real estate transactions (bringing in JV partners, advising on acquisitions, etc.) or doing private placements. Equity placement is actually closer to a traditional i-banking role than loan sales.

Both should give you good exposure to valuing debt and real estate.
