Is obtaining an MBA worth it?

I am currently a first year Associate at a Commercial Bank. I would like to move into PE/IB/CF. Is getting an executive MBA from schools like Cornell/Duke/UT/A&M worth it for my career aspirations or can I obtain these positions by making the jump from Commercial Banking? Any advice would help. Thanks.

In my opinion it is not worth it unless you are sure that you can increase your salary signficantly, and when I mean signficantly, more than $50-75K, unless you get scholarships and don't have to pay $150K+ for b school. You need to factor in the opportunity cost of not working for two years as well as the lost income from compound interest on the amount spent to get your MBA.

Since those schools are not top 10 schools, it is still going to be tricky to break into banking and practically impossible to breka into PE without any connections or prior experience.

If you want to make more money (which maybe it seems like you want to do if you want to move into IB / PE), then I would suggest starting a side business. IB / PE is not all that cracked up to be and I can bet you that the majority of people who do it would not be doing it if they were making less money.
