Have been looking at the principal investing/merchant banking arms of banks, eg. GS Alternatives/Merchant Banking, JPM, Maccap Principal Finance/GIG groups. Looking more on the infrastructure side, can someone explain what these teams do for principal investing? Is it project finance or something different altogether. Does it have similarities to PE?
