i've got much worse before....personally, i'd just move on to the next one
I feel like theres a pretty bad connotation with the word "opportunistic"
it's your call, but in my experience those who are most willing to help long-term generally don't degrade the networking approach. that said, it's entirely possible you might have just caught him at a bad time
what did you email him in the first place? that might give us more of an idea
Pretty standard..
I am XYZ... studying XYZ, am highly interested in investment banking, would like to speak with you about your experiences.... etc. etc. etc.
Just send him your resume. Maybe he's not proficient in the English language, but whatever the reason is for his awkwardly phrased response, your response should be the same....send him your resume.
reply him goddamn right im an opportunist
Send him your resume - you're cold-emailing/reaching out to your network so it's normal to get responses like this (can't hit them 100% of the time!)
I guess I don't see anything wrong with this response. Send the resume and call him in a couple days - with good questions regarding banking / his experience (what you outlined in your original email). We are busy, we don't re-read our reply emails multiple times to make sure they're perfect before responding to a college kid (no offense - you just aren't a client)...
this.
Stop thinking so much of it. Just send the resume and stop whining.
Was this someone who had indicated that they are open to cold calls, or did you find him/her somehow like in a alumni directory? If the former, not cool. If the latter, totally understandable.
