Is this internship in vessel valuation worth it?

A family friend has offered me an unpaid internship in vessel valuation.

I will be relying a lot on using dcf modelling to value ships, fleets and companies. I will also be researching how other deals in the market affect valuations.

Alongside this I will be working with quants and academics on producing complex mathematical models.

The problem is that is internship will cost a lot in terms of travel.

My long term aim is to break into Investment Banking.

Will this internship be worth it?

I work at a bank that does a lot of shipping banking, and we would respect an internship like that, especially if in conjunction with something else closer to IB on your resume. That said,

-it won't make up for your being non-competitive academically if you are -you would have to define cost relative to your means to make a good evaluation ( do you just need to cutback on beer and pizza next semester, or is your family making big critics for you to do this?)
