I have not worked at either. I have good friends that work at both. Put a gun to my head, my impression is that the people that work at Jefferies seem to feel a bit more motivated and pay appears to be better, although they also seem to work slightly longer hours. YMMV. Not to say that my Barclays friends aren't motivated etc, but they've been through a bit more...,turmoil recently.

I personally would tend to recommend the smaller firm - learn more by working towards being a bigger fish in a smaller pond early on vs just being one of a million guppies in a big firm, so I'd lean Jefferies. But I don't think you can go wrong with either one; both are well-respected names. Focus on the role and what you think you can learn.
