Junior Summer Internship Just got Cancelled - what do I do?

I had an internship lined up at a boutique in New York and they just informed me that they are unable to have me intern for them this summer due to the firm doing some type of changes. (Got the job through alumni who got fired recently, according to his LinkedIn) I offered to work for free but was still denied. What do I do now? Do I cold email local boutique I'd around my area to intern for free, even tho it's March?

Really looking forward to everyone’s advice, thank you!

Cold email every single boutique, pe/vc fund ecc in your city and in your country.

Even if it’s not a prestigious place or what you want to do later in life

There are definitely spots out there. Some name-brand MM (maybe BB) firms might have slots open up if some of their SA's drop for some reason. I know I've seen multiple MM firms post for '22 SAs on my school's handshake portal in the last couple of months after taking down their original postings, presumably because spots opened up.

Definitely try and leverage any other connections you have as well. It's definitely a tough situation but perservere and you'll turn out alright - good luck.
