Just got my first SA offer - what things do I need to be considering?
Hi everyone,
Recently received a SA offer for a top EB in London, had a lot of people giving me advice (much appreciated) on what to do next regarding things like; rerecruiting for somewhere "better" (GS/MS/JPM), trying to get a first year summer internship to get experience etc.
I was wondering what sort of considerations would people advise me to take into account when making decisions about where to intern or what to do next. I don't go to a target nor do I study finance/econ, I feel like target unis have really good communities who are knowledgable about how to navigate the corporate world. I appreciate the question is quite generic so any advice regarding ANYTHING at all is welcomed when it comes to what I should be thinking about looking forward with regards to my career.
For context, I am 90% sure I would not want to stay in banking long-term and would probably consider leaving after a couple of years (quite interested in PE/HF/Corp Dev as well as VCs and start-up land).
Any advice would be much appreciated!

Take the offer and shop around for better SA offers
Isn't reneging very risky? Would you not risk losing both SA offers if you renege on your original offer and they call up other banks to see where you're going instead?
yeah definitely do not renege on top EB for top BB lmao... maybe LMM to BB because it's different people, but you will hurt your reputation if you renege for a similar bank down the street
This forum is far too focused on prestige... I would not re-recruit or shop the offer, so much extra work for like 0.0001 benefit. The world will be your oyster from a top EB with plenty of optionality in any of the fields you mention. If you get a GS (or top BB) FT offer you will just get slotted in a group with open FT spots, you won't be competing for the top PE groups as those have high SA offer acceptance rates + lots of internal movers trying to get placed there. Could very much end up in a worse spot than you are now.
Try to learn some finance - if your school offers "finance / accounting for non-majors" that would be great. If not, see if you can take a semester-long course online at a different school and transfer it in as an elective for credit (ask your advisor about this).
I'm confused? You say you have an SA, but you want to shop around for a "first year internship"? ...
Apologies if this wasn’t clear, the SA is for 2024, I meant trying to find some sort of experience at a smaller shop for summer ‘23 to get some experience under my belt!
Oh, ok!
Well, look, you've landed an EB, so you are good. No need to shop around for more offers, you have an internship, you should be very pleased with yourself. Be happy with the achievement! If you get greedy, you won't be happy, so celebrate things as they come. Going to a BB is great, if you want to become a career banker. But you don't. You'll learn all the same skills at your current bank and still have pretty good exits to where you want to end up.
In terms of doing something this summer: you don't have to. Just relax! This might be your last truly "free" summer. Have fun!
Seriously now London also follow the New York timeline and recruit one and a half year prior? Last time I checked London has a timeline later than APAC, usually start giving out offer in December ...
I'd recommend reaching out to startups to see if they have capacity to take on interns
You already got your SA offer for 2024 in LND? I thought the applications open in Aug/Sept
Most likely a spring conversion.
