Lateral Without Prior Connections

Looking to lateral to BB/EB from a reputable MM firm and it seems like I’m getting very little traction through cold outreach. I have very little in the way of alumni connections and I don’t really know that many people in the groups that I’m targeting, so it’s not possible for me to leverage those kinds of connections. Looking for advice from people who have made a similar transition and/or how to best reach people at these firms. My response rate is abysmal, even lower than SA and FT recruiting. Is the market still really bad right now for laterals or do I need to adjust my approach a little bit?
