Lateraling as an international
Can someone (hopefully in similar shoes) provide more color on lateraling within IB as an international with a valid F-1 Visa?Saw a lot of headhunter firms etc. stressing that most banks don't 'sponsor' laterals, even though F-1 OPT by definition doesn't require any sponsorship beyond simply getting employed.
bump
From what I know once you have H1B visa, most firms are willing to take you as lateral candidate. So I would suggest stick with your current firm and get the H1b if you can and then lateral
If you’re on STEM OPT you’re good
Yeah, I am but all of the candidate portals are still super vague/binary about it. In their eyes, you either need sponsorship or you don’t, and having a Visa which doesn’t require anything besides a written confirmation of employment still falls into the former.
Curious how should one bring it up during interview processes. Notify HR early? Work through the whole shtick and inform post offer receipt? Seems v unstructured
You need to network into processes instead of just applying online if you're international. Notify HR when they ask you to fill out an app (don't preemptively do so), but you won't get into any processes just putting resumes out into the ether. Checking the "yes" box for sponsorship is an auto-ding if you're not already very far along with the bank.
Went through, had multiple offers so it’s not a problem as long as you have 2 more years left. Just be upfront about it so you don’t waste your time
