Does Lazard London have a separate M&A team or does it do M&A in-house in their industry teams (e.g. TMT, Industrials, Consumer etc.)? Similarly with IPOs etc.
Thanks a lot! That makes sense. I was just curious because I know Evercore in London has a separate M&A product team (called GAMA - Generalist Advisory M&A). I appreciate your answer!
I think some boutiques have a couple of people that might be dedicated for Code Work (uk public m&a or listing rules related) and can jump on projects across sectors given regulatory aspects.
At another boutique a buddy of mine has been pulled into other sector deals because he has specific listing rules experience.
That’s typically more senior roles though (vp+) as it’s specific experience related

You dont have an m&a tea in an m&a boutique, that defeats the point…
There is an equity advisory tea tor IPOs that works with sectors.
Same for debt advisory
Sectors do the m&a advisory

GAMA is mainly for UK takeover code related deals and some UK M&A.
Usually the other sector teams do the M&A themselves.
Healthcare is strong
Thanks! What about Consumer? (I.e. Consumer, Retail, & Leisure).
Hi Dale
B
No M&A group - sector coverage is also M&A execution - but there are other product groups (ECM/DCM/Rx/Venture/Secondaries)
Wouldn't touch consumer (flow and culture)
TMT and Industrials historically best deal flow, although former has lost rainmaker and latter is sweaty
Healthcare historically sweaty but supposedly improved recently
Nat Res effectively a few sub-teams with different MDs, so varies
FIG - good team and culture, probably best bang for buck
Biz serv - good culture, lumpy deal flow
Real estate - not got enough datapoints so can't comment, but UK Chair is ex-RE so it gets looked after
Sponsors - can't comment as team has changed a lot in recent years
Awesome - thanks! That’s really helpful.
Could you please elaborate on the culture in Consumer? Thanks!
