Lazard vs Barclays for Summer Analyst
Out of these two firms, where would you prefer to summer?
Lazard is a great name but Barclays is a BB. Barclays has in house M&A, so no worry about modeling experience.
Any input appreciated, thanks

Career Resources
Go with Lazard. You need to be at specific targets to place well into Barclays "top" groups. Horrible placement process. Plus, Barclays is a BB, sure. But Lazard is a top brand, arguably better than the Barclays brand, within finance.
Disagree. Placement can definitely be a crapshoot but if you’re a good candidate you will be placed into one of your top choices. Lazard also has placement for full time and know a few people who got absolutely screwed for no reason
Being good or not has nothing to do with group placement, and if you think so then you have not been on the other side of recruiting. Look at P&U, Healthcare, C&R. The most desirable groups have an abundant amount of interns from the same core schools. You dont see Princeton interns are P&U, you dont see Harvard at Healthcare, C&R is full of Penn. Yet you see other, "target" kids filling these groups, and I can assure you its 100% not because they are "better candidates". In any case, OP would rather at least work in a generalist setting, build contacts, and then leverage those to place; whereas in Barclays, OP wont even get his/her foot in the door unless he goes to a certain group-specific core school.
I literally interned in one of those groups and I by no means have a stellar background. Just be a normal person with a good attitude
Sounds like you got screwed in the placement process.
Barclays supposedly has a better culture outside of some groups like tech and oil & gas
Lazard sounds awesome in theory until you start working there lmfao
Not even a question - Lazard
