Limited modeling experience

I am leaving banking for a F500 strategic finance role.

The team works closely with corp dev, FP&A, other finance groups and requires strong modeling skills.

I am good in Excel but rarely do any intensive modeling.

I will definitely enroll in a modeling course but I am still worried that I’m in over my head.

Appreciate any advice / anecdotes for learning modeling skills quickly!

Strategic finance modelling is going to be very different from the traditional modeling that most investment banking analysts are used to (3 statement, DCFs, acc/dil, LBOs, etc). It's much less formulaic and more ad-hoc and opportunistic, so I would make sure I understand the business model and the key KPIs that drive the business which would really help you build your models more thoughtfully.
