Deal size has been improving - probably 100-250m EV on average is the focus. Decent in some verticals and they are picking up dealflow. Mostly does sell-sides.
decent place to start your career assuming that’s the best offer you’ve got, after 1-3 years you should be able to move upmarket should you have a desire to do so.
Thanks for the insight - really useful
Could you please name some more of such lower-tiered Investment banks (mainly M&A) that have some presence in London
Interned here, they pay below street at every level (banded salaries) and definitely causes discontent amongst all levels. Modeling is only done by the VPs and some work by associates. Growing in size, but lags behind HL, RJ, WB, etc. Top teams are Industrials, HC, and Tech in that order. Very good culture, but is somewhat team dependent. PM for more info.
Very good culture- yes you'll work hard, typical 'Goldman' hours are present from the Analysts I see there. Healthcare and TMT are very busy ; their FSG and VOG teams are also very interesting. As for the people, proper diverse mix- accounting/audit/big 4 backgrounds at higher level as well some ex HL/BB Bankers. Deal size mainly between 100m-500m, some below and a handful above
Any insight into the other M&A teams? I've heard they're growing super quickly, adding new teams
Anyone with insight into the London healthcare team?
Sweaty. Very sweaty BUT strongest group in London's Lincoln office for sure. Do some decent deals, mainly sell-side focus (some marquee ones too punching above the usual 50m-250m EV space) , high turnover and frequent laterals to William Blair. Culture of the senior folks there is very good, you'll be worked but definitely a growing team with ambitions to expand.
Ah thanks - is a move to BB a possibility from these teams? Not too keen on staying in mm and lmm
when you mention sweaty, what are we taking - currently doing routine 9am - 1/2am mon - fri + weekend work (20+hrs)
Yeah have heard hours are tough there - team headed up by a guy who is ex-Deloitte. Nothing beyond the normal LMM space really, and shouldn't really expect much more. Solid shop with solid creds though, can certainly lateral after some time there.
Amazing - thanks for the insight. Any ideas as to salary and bonus?
