London bankers, where do you get your suits?
Just curious, do most people get made to measure / bespoke or just off the rack?
Is it still 'acceptable' to be spotted wearing one of those high street Hawes Curtis Charles Tyrwhitt TM Lewin as you move up the ranks?
For anyone that has MTM / bespoke, any tailor recommendations and what prices are we looking at?
Suitsupply
Depends, if you are at GS it must be Zegna. For other places suitssupply is fine
Off the rack is perfectly acceptable. Don’t look like shit and no one will care.
Brand depends somewhat on body build - the brands you mention don’t work for me so I’ve gone for something more old school.
MTM - got one done for £1,400 with second set of trousers. Taylor is reco from a colleague - that felt like good value (and can definitively see the difference). Will depend on fabric, maker…
Honestly if you want to spend that money on a great suit as an A1 go for it, there are worse ways to spend it. But don’t think it’s the norm
Charles Thyritt
I actually go to Madrid lmao
400€/ 500€ for a bespoke suit. You can get a return flight ticket for ~60€ and is 2 hours away so I just go one random Saturday every 6 months or so.
Had an italian colleague who did it with Milan too, he told me it was 350€ for him
Which shop in Madrid?
Tom Black, the one near Santa Barbara’s Parish
Blandin and Deloye in Paris. 800 for best tissue, semi bespoke. I bought some when I started, 7 yrs later I am still wearing them...
A suit is a not real suit if it is not Italian. You need to look for Italian textile. All the rest is cheap
TkMaxx
I wear Hackett & Hugo Boss off the rack and then altered. Hackett because i like the cut and Hugo Boss cos its great quality for like 600 quid. I've had a couple HB suits for 4 years and I still wear them
Who wear suits anymore?
Most people don't, but for us (interns) is just the safe way to go. Even my analysts and associates who come in t shirts and jeans tell me not to risk even not bringing a tie
I'd recommend Boggi. Italian but have a couple stores in London
Charles Tyrhwitt, H&C, TM Lewin all solid. Charles Tyrwhitt High Holborn has some deal as it's close to all the commercial law and Justice offices; 4 shirts, any tie and pair of socks for £100 if you buy a suit there
