Lunch with bankers

A few days ago I applied for an SA position at an IB. Several of the bankers invited me out to lunch for next Wednesday. Would you treat this like an interview or as an informal meet and greet? Should I prepare for technical questions?

it wont be an interview per say but they will be judging you for the fit. Research everything you can about the firm's culture.

  1. Meet everyone with firm handshake a look in the eye
  2. Learn everyone by their first names and call them w/ their first names
  3. Try to find a "sticking point" w/ the guys sports, frat, drinking something not work related
  4. At the end, shake hands again and tell them it was a pleasure.
  5. Email them a thank you note

be genuine, dont be a faker (they are spotted very easily)

Whiskey5It is all about fit as others have stated.

Although you generally should avoid work-related, but asking about deals they closed can definitely be a talking point. Remember, bankers love to talk about themselves and how glorious the deal(s) they closed were.

very true
