M&A to RX (SA to FT)

Does anyone have experience moving from M&A to RX from SA to FT? For context I am a SA at one of the strategic advisory banks and work in M&A. The work is quite frustrating, and not overly interesting. I don't study finance in school and to be honest didn't know much about distressed/credit/cap structure so I didn't look into RX. Have done some reading and even on some of my staffings, I have realized that I enjoy working with credit.

If I wanted to move to RX for FT, could I do it internally, or should I try to do it at another bank?

Unfortunately not a lot of openings for FT, most people accept their returns. Might want to do at another bank so as to not jeopardize return unless its a supportive group

Tough to do if you didn't express interest in RX during your internship.  Tough to do if you didn't work with RX at all during your internship.  Tough to do if you're getting a FT offer for a specific group vs. pool.  Easier to do if you're at a bank where the analysts are shared between M&A and RX (forget who does this).  So it depends on the situation at your bank and how they staff FT analysts.

Could take a risk and reach out to a junior in the RX group but they might tell people about it.  If you reached out to me I wouldn't but depends on the person and how well you know them.
