MBD/RE Private Equity/Special Servicing -> IBD?

I'm currently in the middle of applying for a summer analyst at a merchant bank with options to go into RE Private Equity or Special Servicing, and I think I have a decent chance. Are either of those good places to start as a sophomore for getting into IBD (esp. restructuring/distressed assets) or should I be focusing elsewhere?
