Media Group Industry Reports

I currently work in investment banking in an Oil & Gas industry group. When I started, my fellow analysts provided me with a few research reports to help get familiar with the industry, as I knew very little about it. These reports (one from DB, one from UBS) were fairly large (200-300 pages) and had very little information regarding individual equities in the sector. They were more focused on an overall overview of the sector, how it works, different classes of companies within the industry and how companies within the industry are typically valued.

I was wondering if any of you working in other groups have run across reports like this in the Media sector. I would be interested in knowing who released them and when so I could obtain a copy of anything similar.

Also, are there any media boutiques that provide research on the sector? I’m not familiar with boutiques that focus on this sector, but I guess banks analogous to Tudor Pickering or Tristone in Oil & Gas, but in Media.

Can anyone help me on either front?

Sorry I can't help, but I'm interested in the O&G reports. I have access to DB research and was wondering if you could send me the name of the report, or the analyst who wrote it?

Thanks!

on a type of media but I would suggest BIA financial sources. (I gotta warn you, some reports are bloody expensive. ) http://www.bia.com/publications_reference_main.asp

When I started out, I used S&P industry reports to get a general picture. Those reports are not exhaustive - around 30 pages or so - but provide quick background and you can take it from there.

Some industry sources might be: Advertising Age Adweek Book Industry Trends Broadcasting & Cable (lots of info on micro deals) Editor & Publisher Publishers Weekly Robert Coen’s Insider’s Report Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC) Mediamark Research Inc. (MRI) SRDS Media Solutions (Detailed reports on DMA's and TNS Media Intelligence/CMR American Association of Advertising Agencies (AAAA) American Booksellers Association American Business Media Association of American Publishers Inc. Newspaper Association of America

Media boutiques would be: Desilva + Philips http://www.mediabankers.com/Reports.aspx

Berkery Noyes http://www.berkerynoyes.com/pages/publications.aspx

The Jordan Edmiston Group http://www.jegi.com/industry-reports

PM me if you need more info. I might have copies of some reports.
