Mentor from BB asked me how he can help me regarding recruiting efforts... What do I say?
A mentor of mine who used to be a upper level manager at Lehman Bros. He has been helping me with networking efforts and has willingly introduced me to someone at a top IB.
He said, "okay, next week you're going to let me know who else I can help you." So, besides him introducing me to people at BBs, how should I ask him to help me? In what ways can I take advantage of his mentoring?
ask him questions.
Never ever let this guy go. Not in a homo / stalker way. He is literally pushing you to let him help you.
That guy is a hen laying golden eggs for you. Be nice and keep him posted about your recruiting progress.
I was fortunate to have a great mentor early on and one of the most valuable things that he did was put together a reading list, essentially a 1 year curriculum, of stuff that he had read or wish he had known early on in his career. I cultivated the relationship by reading all of the stuff and occasionally reaching out to him with questions, comments, insights, etc.
Agree with Asatar and the fact that having a mentor early on is incredibly helpful. You may also want to ask if he is comfortable sending you old banking materials.
