Microsoft Finance VS Goldman Sachs IBD Hong Kong
I have an internship offer from both Microsoft Finance (Seattle Headquarters) and Goldman Sachs IBD Hong Kong. Which one would give me better exit ops? I would prefer to work in the US long-term but unsure about the prestige of the programs.
Ah, the classic dilemma of choosing between two fantastic opportunities! Based on the most helpful WSO content, both Microsoft Finance and Goldman Sachs IBD Hong Kong offer unique experiences that can significantly boost your career.
If your long-term goal is to work in the US, the Microsoft Finance internship at the Seattle Headquarters could be a strategic move. You'll gain valuable experience in the tech industry, which is booming in the US. Plus, having a big name like Microsoft on your resume can open doors in various industries.
On the other hand, Goldman Sachs IBD in Hong Kong is a prestigious program that can provide you with a solid foundation in investment banking. This could lead to high-profile opportunities in finance. However, it's worth noting that the work culture and hours in IBD can be quite intense.
In the end, the decision should align with your career goals and personal interests. Consider the skills you'll acquire, the work environment, and where you see yourself in the future. Remember, there's no wrong choice here, only what's right for you. Good luck!

IBD HK without a doubt IMO. the low taxes there and international experience will set you apart and IBD is more flexible in terms of career.
Unless you want to work in a corporate and FP&A stuff and get home sick etc.
The only exit would be PE (if you are fortunate enough to be on the partner track of an MF)
Otherwise the exit would be substantially worse than MSFT FP&A and to be honest even worse than working in big 4 in orange county
The non-PE exits are all like garbage startups that have issues hiring non-bankers / Alibaba or Tencent strategic investments which pays 65k HKD a month for 5y IBD experience / IR at Zhihu BiliBili which pays 40k RMB for a former IBD associate
Once you exit, its worse than doing HR at GS imo LOL
