MM Summer Analyst (Tech Coverage) to BB/EB FT (Tech Coverage)... Is it Possible?
I have accepted a summer analyst offer from a top MM bank (Jefferies, Blair, Baird, HL) with the tech coverage group. I am coming from a non-target school and a STEM major. How hard is it to transition to a top BB/EB (GS TMT, MS Menlo, or other) from the MM bank? When would you suggest to start networking? My GPA when applying was a ~3.6, would I need to get that up / would it matter? Any help would be great and a gauge to how hard this would be.
Just went through the process- and it is definitely possible. MS Menlo has different waves starting from August to October and networking right after your internship ends should be fine. Cannot speak too much about GS TMT though- I think they were filled internally this cycle and were not looking for FT hires.
By any chance would you be able to DM me?
Q will usually take a few FT each year, process starts early (like March/April before the summer internship even starts)
What banks would you apply to given that I'd be coming from a top MM bank. Wouldn't want to go to Citi SF becasue from what I've seen the tech group isn't to hot. Any others to watch out for or to consider?
if your MM is jefferies then it is better than citi and a few other BB
I would not recommend Citi SF (dealflow is weak from what I've heard). Consensus top shops are GS, Qatalyst, and MS Menlo and would be what I would aim for for FT recruiting if you are dead set on tech. I know MS will tend to do FT recruiting starting in August, but I'm not familiar with the GS recruiting (I have heard they didn't recruit FT this year but I'm not confident on this information). JPM SF is also a strong shop, but they tend to focus more on equity offerings and less so on M&A. After those players, there is a significant dropoff in dealflow
