Lateraling into IB from MMB?

I shot hard for IB but was a bit behind peers, didn't get a SA, and FT recruiting this year was tough with impacted hiring and already being a "riskier" candidate based on experience. Was not able to land an offer. Went to semi target with a lot of alumni. Studied finance and econ.

I ended up getting a job I feel solid about doing credit underwriting for MM companies. I'll get some good debt deal exposure and experience but my goal is still to work in IB and eventually investing (PE or Growth).

Should I try and start networking more to hopefully lateral into a FT analyst role at a boutique or MM shop after 6 months to a year in my current role? Will hiring pickup next year to the point where a MM or boutique might hire someone with 1 year of pretty solid and relevant experience?
