Modelling for MBA students

Hi, I'm going to matriculate in an MBA program this fall and I'm contemplating buying the elite financial modelling package here on wso.

Is it a good thing to do?

I have no background in finance and seek to sit for IB recruiting. so thinking of learning modelling by August when the classes start.

I read here that ib analysts do bunch of models and post MBA associates are not much into that, but isn't it my responsibility to know what they do and chip in because they will always appreciate an extra hand?

Thanks much

Thanks for your response. I think I'll be going to rice and recruit for Houston oil and gas. Not sure about the modelling classes. But i think it will be worth it as you suggested.

Your MBA program should offer modeling courses and probably brings in TTS or WSP to lead you through modeling sessions. I don't think you need to do this before school starts. IB recruiting is a slog throughout your first semester. There is no need to go into that process already tired and worn out. Technical questions won't come up until later in the fall and during the interview week. If you really need the assistance, wait until you have an offer and before the summer to do this.

Agree getting burnt out soon would not help. I think a case to do it would be if OP wants to have a more chill recruiting process. There’s enough interview stuff to do, so having some baseline knowledge can help alleviate some stress.

To the comment’s point - OP you can very likely access a bunch of these resources before you start. You can ask the school what’s free/discounted, reach out to providers for discounts if they give any discounts to your school, and/or ask current students to send you some materials.

Hi. Thank you for your detailed response. Do you mean the higher level and more fundamental finance knowledge in addition to interview prep resources?

Or do you also suggest learning the modelling as well?
