Morgan Stanley Financial Sponsors Group info

Looking for some information on the FSG group at MS. What is the work/responsibilites like and do they hold the pen on models? Would be nice to hear about the general culture/hours in the group and how they place in terms of buyside exits. Thanks!

Fair amount of departures recently, with more pending. The senior/junior ratio is slightly different to other teams on the floor, with more seniors (relatively speaking) given the relationship management component.

Work streams can vary depending on staffings, you can get solid experience if lucky but also spend your weekends doing random crap for family offices, or worse bizdev stuff.

Historically known as a “lifestyle” team but as I know it those guys are currently getting crushed, maybe not to the level of sector teams but you can definitely expect an average 2am leave time.

I'm not sure what they do all day. They do not help with deals at all. I guess they do strip profiles of contacts at various Private Equity firms?

At least for US office, hold the pen to LBO and div recap models. Hold pen to committee materials and lender presentation (if its LL). Split slides with coverage industry team. Split lender question Q&A with industry team. Exits are to sponsors. Seen MF and mid market exits. Would join if goal is buyside.
