Moving from Goldman Sachs GIR (equity research) to Goldman Sachs IBD
So I’ve accepted a job for ER at GS, but as a stepping stone into IBD. Anyone know anything about moving within GS to different sectors?

Not sure about GS in particular but seen this happen many time at other BBs
Okay cool just wondering! I’ve read some stuff at GS about how they promote it but it’s tough to do in practice specifically there
I'm not sure what you've been told but GS is known to be one of the banks that doesn't encourage internal mobility fwiw
Shouldn’t be hard if covering same sector. The more niche the better since tmt /consumer/ healthcare will be filled with candidates

Not uncommon - at GS GIR now and have seen 2 people move to IBD in the last 1.5yrs. In both cases they moved to a similar sector they were covering in ER
