Not a crazy move at all. I have to go to NYC alot and I can tell you the place gives me a headache. My bank will most likely place me there as thats where our headquarters for my division, but the city is not a place I want to settle down either. I'd rather relax in a nice town, where I can buy a large house and not ever have to hear cars honking ever again. One thing you need to keep in mind is that salaries will be much lower, but if you are moving to a small city, chances are cost of living is significantly less. In terms of negotiations, going from BB to a smaller shop is easy, but if you are asking for a high salary then the smaller firm will automatically believe that you are stuck in the big city mindset.
