Moving to London as a European after having studied in the US
Hi there,
I'm currently studying at a target (Ivy) in the US, but I'm originally from Europe. After graduation I'd like to work in banking in London rather than NYC. How difficult will this transition be, especially when it comes to recruitment and internships? Also, how is a US degree perceived in London?
Thanks!
Definitely will not put you at a disadvantage if your profile (grades, ECs, previous internships) is good enough to get through the online application system.
I wouldn't worry about the US degree, that will likely be seen at least on par with a top tier UK/EU degree. Recruiting can of course be a bit problematic due to the distance. I think the best way would be to try get a finance related internship in the US first and then apply to major banks in London for a summer internship. That way you have some experience which paired with your degree should motivate them enough to pay for the trip. Alternatively, maybe consider an exchange semester in Europe to be closer to London.
