My Question to you

Why are the big 4 ranked so highly as the best places to launch a career and the best places to intern? Also, what looks better for full time recruiting for IB...a Big 4 audit internship or an internship at a boutique investment bank that's small and unknown and of course unpaid?

I was referring to BusinessWeek's list. Not your lame ass list that also consists of the names of people who bullied you at school because you had no idea of how to normally communicate on Planet Earth.

Calm down psycho. From an IB standpoint, Nokia is right. Relevant experience > audit @ big 4. The only thing that COULD make big 4 better is a corp fin/m&a advisory role, which are harder to come by before junior/senior summer. You are clearly still learning about this industry, so try not to be a douche around here, or you won't get much help. And try not to invest too much confidence in media lists. The only one with any significance is the MBA list, and even that thing can be a little off.

From what I've heard, the bank is better. It shows dedication to the industry and becoming a banker. Plus, if you do an internship at a small bank and can't handle or don't like the work, then at least you know its something you don't want to pursue full time.

You are better off trying to earn some solid experience at a no-name boutique (while showing your interest in the field) than working in audit. To second what others have said, the Big 4 looks good in the advisory roles, but audit probably won't offer much help to you in terms of breaking into IB. Go to the boutique, get some experience, figure out if you really like the profession and take it from there.

The boutique is definitely your best bet. Even though it isn't at a BB doesn't mean all that much, especially with no experience. Getting your footing in the industry itself is. Showing yourself if it's right for you is important foremost. That will allow you, in turn, to be more determined to seek out that BB and all its glory. Good luck.

If you ain't buy side what are you doing on Wall St.? Gimme something good sport...
