Ahh yes the girl from Harvard getting the SA position who couldn't even name the 3 FS is really grinding harder than my non-target ass…..
Harvard isnt a target bitchass
A lot more target compared to when one of my interviewers said “ that’s in a bad part of the city, do you feel safe?” In reaction to hearing my school..
Per post, refer to point #1
I somewhat disagree, you have to work smarter not harder. So for example you can’t feasibly be preparing technicals all day and all night as you have to also stay ontop of College work as GPA is everything coming from a non-target. What I done was when I got an interview I’d drop all college work and prepare like crazy for superday as that’s when you really got any real rough technicals. Really and truly if you’re somewhat ontop of it you can memorise in a week
You definitely need to work smart, but you also have to work pretty hard as well. A lot of my interviews came because of countless networking calls as well as making sure I was best prepared for the specific group I was interviewing for. As far as technicals go, you have to find what works for you. A week studying technicals would not be enough for me to truly understand the underlying concepts. Thanks for sharing.
keep a decent GPA, being a non target myself i found networking is key,
I went to a semi target, so I can speak to both sides of this. We got a lot of OCR at half the BBs, and getting contacts and converting them to interviews was relatively easy. On the other hand, I was super interested in EBs, but we had no OCR and almost no alumni. It was such a grind just getting anybody on the phone there. In the end, I did manage to land an EB, but it was out of pure luck by being in the right place at the right time through meeting an MD.
What gravitated you so much to EBs over BBs especially since you already had OCR working in your favor? When I was SA recruiting I had zero preference between BB or EB (was just looking for the best name/group possible). Curious to hear your perspective.
I wanted coverage teams that did M&A as well. In terms of BBs, only GS and Barclays have that, and only GS did OCR. I had a lot of solid contacts there, but I ultimately accepted an early offer in the spring and wasn’t going to risk it just for GS.
I go to a semi-target too but most of our OCR is from EBs rather than BBs
Does any one else feel a cachet of preftige when you mention your target school to someone ?
Depends what target, if it's some second rate school like Stanford or Princeton, not exactly. If it's Wharton or Yale, yes.
Lmao Stanford and Princeton are not second rate 😂
