Need SA UBS group advice (London)

Hi everyone, I’ve accepted an offer for UBS in London and was wondering which teams people would recommend based on strength (and maybe headcount to avoid not getting any exposure due to too many juniors?).

I’m leaning towards GIG due to personal interest and deal flow but was hoping to hear some advice from people in industry.

Would love to hear any info you’ve got about all and any teams, as a student this really does help !!

As a further point:

Heard Levfin is the strongest but over bloated.

Was interested in TMT but also heard it was very telecoms (Vodafone) focused which is slightly less my area of interest

GIG has loads of juniors too. Leanest teams in terms of juniors are probably consumer, RELL, ECM. Yes levfin bloated but also have a lot of work right now. If you are an intern you should also have a “choose your team” at some point where you can get to know them better, and there it’s super easy to find the relation of juniors to seniors.

One final point is that at the end of the day, the juniors will be asked to give feedback on you, and that is going to be a big factor. If you end up in a team with 4 juniors and 2 don’t like you, going to be tough. In a bigger team, you might have some room to manoeuvre away from the people you don’t get along with

Good luck

Hey, thank you for your answer! Sadly I can’t join the “meet the teams” event as I’ll be out of country, hence my little panicked search. I thought a new round of cuts had come about and maybe trimmed a bit of GIG but I suppose that’s still not the case. Thank you again for your help, by the way do you happen to know if headcount is bloated across all GIG groups (so CMG, Industrials, I&P) or just industrials ?
